Shonan Gold
Shonan gold is a fruit invented by Kanagawa prefecture that offers an entirely new sensory experience. It was born from a fusion between the ogonkan (golden oranges) that were already being harvested in the west of Kanagawa prefecture and the "Imamura unshiu" (a variety of satsuma orange). Visually the fruit resembles a lemon, and you would expect it to have a strong sour taste. But upon taking a bite, a fresh scent and refreshing sweetness fills the mouth, and the fruit is a tiny treasure that offers immense satisfaction despite its small size. Recent years have seen the production and sale of sweets and drinks that make use of Shonan gold.
