Yokosuka
A maritime port city located on the Miura Peninsula, Yokosuka is one of four Japan Heritage Naval Port cities. With a huge US Navy base, the city is naturally home to diverse cultures and is cosmopolitan, friendly and welcoming to visitors who flock there from Yokohama and Tokyo.
Home to the legendary Mikasa Battleship, one of the world's three Great Memorial Ships, Yokosuka has plenty of activities and navy-based tours which are sure to be popular with history buffs out there. English is also widely spoken throughout Yokosuka and it makes any kind of interaction with locals slightly easier if you are unable to speak Japanese.
The city also hosts several museums and gardens which is a great way to relax in this very charming and international city. And just a few blocks from the Main Gate of the naval base, visitors can find the bustling Dobuita Street which is packed with restaurants, bars and a spectrum of retail operations.
