Take a train in the Tokyo area to the residence of the Tokugawa shogun, Edo Castle, which became the Imperial Palace in 1868. You can visit places associated with the samurai who were instrumental in the Ueno War between the old shogunate and new government forces and in the bloodless opening of the castle at the end of the Edo period. From Yokohama, rent a car and take a driving tour. Please relax in Hakone and visit the villa of Hirobumi Ito, the first Prime Minister of Japan, who served to establish a constitutional government at the end of the Edo period and during the Meiji Restoration.
