Tradition says that retainers of Toyotomi clan arrived here after the fall of the Osaka castle. Then, Gozu Tenno was enshrined as a local deity of Machiya village. And a local festival in summer “Gion Tennosai” started since then. (Quoted from Shrine Magazine of Kanagawa prefecture)
