Said to have been built in 941, it enshrines Imperial Prince Sawara (Kanmu Tenno's younger half-brother) and Kamakura Gongoro Kagemasa (a samurai from the Taira clan). It is said to ward off misfortune, help achieve academic success, including passing exams, and improve calligraphy.
