The Great Kite Festival Cultural Tour

The “Great Kite Festival” is a traditional event that has been handed down for nearly 200 years since the Tempo Era (around 1830), and is held on the banks of the Sagami River between Zama and Sagamihara for two days on May 4 and 5 every year (Zama City Great Kite Festival and Sagami's Great Kite Festival). First, learn about the history of kites and how they are made at the Odako Center, then take a walk along the scenic Sagamigawa riverbed while visiting the various sites where kites are actually flown.
