Egara Tenjin Shrine

This shrine is dedicated to Sugawara no Michizane in 1104 (the first year of the Choji era). The shrine was established by Minamoto no Yoritomo at the start of the Kamakura Shogunate rule. However, the present shrine was built in the Muromachi Period and is certified as an Important Cultural Property of Japan.

Dankazura

“Dankazura” is the approach that connects second Torii and Tsuruoka Hachimangu, the length of which is about 500 m. It was constructed to pray for safe delivery when Masako, the wife of Minamoto no Yoritomo, got pregnant. The approach started from Yuigahama ended at Tsuruoka Wakamiya.
