Chinriu Main Store (Station Front) Main Stores

Hakone

A shop specializing in plums which has its origin in Chinryutei, a traditional Japanese restaurant started by Monya Komine, the last chef of Odawara castle, in the fourth year of the Meiji period (1871). When Odawara Station opened in the Taisho period, the store was relocated to its position in front of the station and renamed the easier-to-read "Chinriu Honten,” and remains there to this day. The shop’s main products are domestically produced, fully-ripened Japanese plums of the finest quality, as well as old-fashioned pickled plums made only with salt, and customers who are pickled plum connoisseurs approve of the fragrance and flesh of the fruit which seems to melt, which is distinctive of fully-ripened fruit. In addition, there is also a large selection of pickles which incorporate plums, cherries, and red perilla, and the plum wine and sweets which blend Japanese and Western styles are also popular. Among these, the baked sweets which feature plums and local fruit are popular, so please enjoy products which “take advantage of the quality of the ingredients without adding anything unnecessary” together with pickled plums.
