Tounodake
Mt. Sonbutsu is said to be the most popular mountain in the Omotetanzawa area. From the Okura trailhead, it is roughly a 4-5 hour climb to the top where you can enjoy panoramic views of Mt. Fuji and the Sagami Bay. The name of the mountain comes from a giant rock on the summit, "Sonbutsu Iwa", which was once called "Oto" (meaning "tower"), once loved by the local people as a god to pray to for rain. The rock unfortunately collapsed during the Great Kanto Earthquake, but today there is a stone shrine memorializing "Detaino Sonbutsu" on the summit of the mountain.
