Tachibana Shrine and Fujimidai Ancient Tomb

Tachibana Shrine and Fujimidai Ancient Tomb

This is a circular megalithic tomb with a diameter of 17.5m and a height of 3.7m. The ditch surrounding the tomb has been cut into by the road. According to the Tachibana Shrine, legend has it that Yamato Takeru no Mikoto (also known as Yamato Takeru) lost his wife, princess Otachibana Hime, when she sacrificed herself to the rough seas during his military expedition in the east. He decided to bury both her clothes and crown here as a replacement for her body after they were later found washed up in the area.
