Edo Mitsuke at Hiratsuka-juku

Edo Mitsuke at Hiratsuka-juku

Hiratsuka-shuku (post station) used to stretch 1km along the former Tokaido Road between "Edo-mitsuke (sentry station)", the gateway on Edo side, and "Kyogata-mitsuke' on the Kyoto side. Edoguchi Mitsuke was restored based on the picture Count Balbarani, the Italian ambassador to Japan in the early Meiji Period, brought home with him.
