Honmoku Summit Park

The park is located near a place that used to be an atelier of Shimomura Kanzan, the master of Japanese painting, and Honmoku Shrine. Honmoku Shrine has been inheriting the sacred ritual “Ouma Nagashi” since the Muromachi era. The park is beautiful in the season of cherry blossoms.

Honmoku Shrine

This shrine is known for prayers involving marriage and warding off evil. There is an exhibition space dedicated to the Prefectural-Designated Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property known as Ouma-Nagashi or “Sinking the Horse”. This is a ritual in which a straw horse is made to transfer bad luck and then eventually transferred to a boat for a ride out into the harbor.
