About
The Diplomat's House was built in the Nanpeidai area of Shibuya, Tokyo, in 1908 as the residence of Sadatsuchi Uchida, a diplomat of the Meiji Government. It was designed by American architect J.M. Gardiner. The building is a two-story wooden building with a penthouse and features gorgeous decorations based on the American Victorian style. The interior is decorated in an Art Nouveau style, with the furniture and decorations strongly influenced by American arts and crafts, both of which are currently designated as important national cultural properties. The museum displays Gardiner's work and pieces about the lives of diplomats, as well as a cafe space to relax.Essential Information
