Hibita Shrine

This ancient shrine (Engi-shiki-nai-sha, Sagami Province, Sannomiya) is mentioned in records from the Heian period (794-1185), and exhibits the faith of Minamoto no Yoritomo and successive shoguns of the Tokugawa shogunate. In the shrine's vicinity, ring-shaped stones from the mid-Jomon period have been excavated, indicating that the area around the shrine was considered an ancient sacred ground. The Sannomiya Local Museum, located on the shrine grounds, houses the oldest wooden "komainu" (guardian dogs) in the Kanto region. The Motomiya shrine (7-8 minutes walk from the shrine) features a panoramic view of Sagami Bay.
